Ok, thanks. I'll update the article accordingly.

As for Milestone and their game-naming habits, let me elaborate on my objections. (this will be very off-topic, but hey)

If the correct name of their second game is indeed Radirgy, coming from a wordplay on "radio" + "alergy", then the correct kataka rendition of that name would be 繝ゥ繝

It's just idle speculation, but with the katakana 繧ォ繝ゥ繧ケ (魘

That's what I've been saying.

And also, I would like to ask, why does every kind of speculation on the internet have to be described as 'idle'? The guys on shumps do this all the time, and it gets on my nerves.

Me and Recap are both speculating here, obviously, since we can't just call Milestone to clear this up for us once and for all.

But we are not being 'idle'.

idle
–adjective 1. not working or active; unemployed; doing nothing: idle workers.
2. not spent or filled with activity: idle hours.
3. not in use or operation; not kept busy: idle machinery.
4. habitually doing nothing or avoiding work; lazy.
5. of no real worth, importance, or significance: idle talk.
6. having no basis or reason; baseless; groundless: idle fears.
7. frivolous; vain: idle pleasures.
8. meaningless; senseless: idle threats.
9. futile; unavailing: idle rage.

Since there's different systems of romanization, the best thing to do in cases like that is to use what you feel is best, and then also provide the title in the original Japanese spelling in order to dispell confusion.

BTW, might you be interested in doing that for your lists on Postback? That would make them absolutely 100% superb!

Since I often find a title in your list and then have to guesstimate how to write it in Japanese again, in order to search for info on it in the web.

I don't. Indeed, I think of them as the worst thing the shooting genre has received since the old years.

But I am! ^_^ 'Idle speculation', I suppose, just refers to the fact that , well, there's nothing else you can do--you yourself said you can't very well call Milestone and get and answer, so all of this amounts to speculating with no action; i.e. idly. Although I think you read far more into the semantics of that sentence than was really required.

You mean 繧「繝ォ繝ォ繧・縺ィ縺ゅ◎縺シ? I've seen the character's name written as "Aruruw" on a few visual novel fansites; as a good amount of Utawarerumono was inspired or taken from Ainu folklore, this has been cited as the best way to (approximately) transliterate the katakana.

Hum. Actually, there's only one correct 'system' to transliterate foreign words which happen to be in katakana form - the one which keeps the original spelling.

I mean, if you find katakana in a Japanese game title, most likely, it'll be a 'foreign word', you know. In the case of 'Witzall Nemetia Senki' (or whatever it is, I used the interweb to find the words' origin, but didn't help much), it's pretty clear the first two words are Western words (invented or not), even if we don't know them. Using 'Uitsaru Nemitia Senki' would be kind of stupid for the purpose.

BTW, might you be interested in doing that for your lists on Postback? That would make them absolutely 100% superb!

I've been thinking about it for some time now, but the truth is that most people who visit the site don't have even the Japanese text compatibility on their PC's... Maybe, in the future, I'll do it as separate lists, but I have lots of things pending... (like finishing the PS list, which will be really special, I believe).

Do portable games even count?

No, I meant the action game's name, as I pointed, but that's also helpful, thanks.

Yeah. That's what it comes down to, in the end.

Well, I am about to review their first two games, and, barring a last-minute change of heart, I will score them 1/5 and 2/5, respectively.

My love for Milestone is purely reflexive. For one thing, they are making shooters in the year 2006. From that fact alone they deserve my respect. Also, I read an interview with their director on Edge magazine a while back, and his honesty and directness impressed me greatly. I hope they keep improving with every game, and I hope a day comes when I score one of their shooters highly, and tell everyone who reads my website, and everyone I know who plays games, to "rush out and buy it".

Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

Crap. Do you have one of these? I've actually started one, but it's like 4000 titles long. It will take forever (and I'm not exactly researching the strange ones.... just guessing).

4000! Nope, mine is 700-title long. My lists are never complete, but filtered according to my own preferences. Useless as true DB's, I suppose, but hey.

Yeah, I know, but nope, I didn't mean the compilation's name, but the name of Utawareru Mono's side game (does 'side game' even exist as a word? Well you know). 'Witzall Nemetia Senki' or whatever.

[ETC] Cave AM Show Booth

Postby Gaijin Punch » Wed Sep 13, 2006 11:02 pm

Cave Booth at the AM Show. I count 6 Mushihime-sama Futari cabs, and the two ho bags below will be doing Cosplay. Seems they've got a new Reco. The little blurb also says once you play the game, you'll see what's up with the "jungle" theme. Not sure if that's just a stage, or the whole game.

Wow, that's quite a apt way of describing the booth babes if I might say so myself. Are JP gamers really that obsessed about cute girls that they'd rather have young, chipmunk-faced, pop-out-eyed girls than hot models?

No, just JP people.

Edit: Men.

Edit again: You know the sick thing... that's not even considered lolita. I went searching for some rare Cave Doujinshi last time I was in Shibuya...specifically the ones you can see at C-Cube (check the links section). I had to go through boxes of game related porn doujinshi. Then I stumble across the "lolita" section, in which the girls are even younger.

Here's the porn breakdown:
US - JPN
Teen - About to retire from porn
Lolita - Normal stuff
Child pornography - Lolita

My visa expires on the 11th of December, so probably not. Except if I get married in the meantime (to a girl friend, just for the visa), or get a job as English teacher (again, for a couple of weeks until I get a visa).

Of course I've been saying that I'll do one of the above for over two years now, so the chances of actually doing them this time around are minimal.

I guess you are coming over on holidays?

Seems the version on the last day had a few changes:

-2nd mid boss bullet pattern change?
-Gauge changed from blue to red
-Zarigani's way shot has more bullets. The turtle's 3-way shot was doubled (2 layers).

I'm not sure I'd go as far as 'ho bags', but when will people realize that some fictional game characters just do not translate well into real life?

According to a report at Cave's website, Mushihime-sama Futari was the most popular game at the AM Show.
