Good Atomiswave games besides Dolphin Blue?

Postby Gaijin Punch » Wed May 18, 2005 3:27 am

Can anyone list any? I dont' like 2D fighters, although I think Rumble Fish is very pretty. Demolishion Fist... no thanks. Anything I'm missing here that would justify the $150 or so for the motherboard? Anything on the horizon I'm missing?

I've played Dolphin Blue for about an hour or so, 2 player. It didn't seem all that good. Well, if you take into account that games like that don't come out anymore then maybe the nostalgia factor can make it seem a bit better than it is...

I played it a bit before I left. It's no Metal Slug, but it sure isn't bad... it's coming way down in price. The fact that the board as well is 10,000 yen make me not want to pick it up unless there's something else really good for it. Demolition Fist is the only thing I've really seen, and that's pretty weak. I guess for 2000 it's not a bad buy. GG Isuka does very little for me.

Sushi Bar. It is said to be a superlative puzzle game. Never played, thoe. Besides that, DB and RF 1 & 2, there's nothing on Atomiswave really interesting. And there won't be if you don't like fighting games, it seems. Let me know if you don't find any info about Sushi Bar - I think I can upload a video to my site. EDIT: Forgot that SNK-P announced Metal Slug 6 for this platform back in 2004. Fake low res for it, I'm afraid. EDIT 2: What about ignoring AW and taking the Data East 32-bit route? Those games have less possibilities to get emulated than the AW games themselves, actually. They're also much better.

If you can dig up some info, that would be nice. I might've seen this before leaving Japan, but it was prohibitvely expensive. I could be totally wrong though. I would like to hear more about it.

Probably would if I had more people to play them with.

Well that really sucks. Wonder how they justify that. Maybe w/ all this hardware not supporting low res the filters might actually get better at emulating it.

Those boards are prohibitively expensive. I had for a while Cannon Dancer, and even it ran 16,000 yen. A good game, but I wouldn't replay it enough to warrant the high cost. The other DE 32-bit boards are even pricier.

Hmm. I thought I had saved one video of it once but now I can't find it. From what I remember, neat 3D presentation with nice characters and Panic Bomber-style gameplay (don't quote me on that, thoe). Someone at Fanitsu got to play it and liked it much, describing how it worked (or was it at IC?). http://www.system16.com/other/hrdw_atomiswave.html#sb

That was just my speculation, but the odd thing would be that they used true hi res this time. Coliseum, SS Tenkaichi Budokai, KOF NW, KIX... too many references now to see that SNK-P doesn't have any intention to do it ever. And the truth is that the AW does support true low res modes since it's DC-based, but seems that the industry wants to move to 31 kHz monitors as the only standard.

16,000 yen for Cannon Dancer is not much. It's a pretty special game. What about the Taiwanese PGM, then? Some of the Sangoku Senki games should be cheap now.

Interesting... I'll have to look into that.

I have one, and have a couple of games, which is what's preventing me from making the AW plunge. I do have a Sangoku Senki which I got pretty cheap.

Thanks a lot ;). Heavy Smash looks cool,is that an Amigas Speedball-like ? World Cup Volleyball '95 sounds great too, the only two arcade Volley Ball games i've ever played were Winning Spike and V system's Super Volleyball serie.

Thread resurrection of the ages, but I gotta mention that I recently tried the new version of demul after more than a year, and it looks like Dolphin Blue doesn't crash anymore, so I can finally give it some decent time. Pretty damn good game.

Might be reason enough for me to get my emulation machine back up and running (finally). Thanks for the tip.

Any tips for good/smooth emulation? Disabling sound seems to help a bit, but it still feels a bit slow. My graphics card only goes up to DX9, which might explain some of the performance hit (seems like this latest build has a fair amount of DX11 optimization), but the rest of the system is pretty respectable and doesn't seem to be overly taxed by the running emulator.

Using the gpudxlegacy video plugin smoothed the shit out of everything for me (both the emu speed and getting rid of heaps of graphics glitches). If the game runs slow for you regardless of video settings I suppose you might just need a newer comp or whatever.
