A remixed version of Metal Slug 7 for PSP:

Not excited about this. They are shoehorning the DS version onto the PSP. Which means the dimensions seen in the video above won't be the games true dimensions. On the Metal Slug Collection for PSP, if you stretched it as 4:3 to the entire height of the window it zoomed into the image obviously causing blurry graphics. To play it with pixel accuracy and no zoom scaling, you had to play in a tiny box in the center of the screen. So I am assuming this XX Remix of 7 will be the same deal.
One might as well just stick to the DS version of MS7 if they own that handheld. _________________ www.onlineconsoles.com |

The sprites are how many years old? Bored w/ this series after 3. It has no dignity left. _________________

For games like Darius Burst or Sengoku Cannon, outputting to a display is great... but for this Metal Slug release, no.
The game is already going to be in 4:3 mode, then add blur for zoom mode. If you use pixel perfect mode, the image is even smaller. So basically you are playing Metal Slug in a tiny box about the size of your wallet on a screen. Which better be a CRT Monitor (PSP-2000/3000) or an SDTV (PSP-3000). Since connecting your PSP to an HD display will result in display lag from converting the PSP's 480p signal to its native resolution.
Metal Slug XX is really only a valid purchase if you play a PSP on the go regularly and don't own a DS. I mean I guess "technically" the image you would get outputting to a display would be larger than the DS, but the black window frame of dead screen space around the game is so huge. It just makes you think "what the hell am I doing". I actually said this when playing Soldier Collection on a display, with my arcade stick. After that I said "Jesus I need to just get a Turbo Duo, this is insane". _________________ www.onlineconsoles.com |

I'm sure it's still playable. Princess Crown does this and I didn't hear too many people moan about it. _________________

Still, I can't understand the point of having to connect a PSP to a monitor/TV set to play its games
I really feel that its beuty is to play them whenever or wherever you like..
maybe because I have so little time nowadays, I spend most of my gaming time with portables |

I dunno, two player and the extra stage routes are pretty compelling. I also have the weird suspicion it will look better (at least in motion) than most of us suspect. Then again, I played the original DS version over and over despite really not liking it that much, so I'm probably just wishing that future buyers don't suffer like I did.
(I was trying to naturally progress through the Combat School, because each new set of Cindy dialog was more and more amazingly embarrassing to experience)
I wish I was in charge of SNK. Even just Metal Slug....I'd bring that mobile strategy game to DSiware and iPhone, figure out some solution to the whole Metal Slug Zero Online mess and float out to the fans the idea of remaking 1st and 2nd Mission for DS or PSP mini.
VOTE DAIS FOR KING OF SNK 2K10 (if they are still around then) _________________ |

I really have no problem with the 4:3 aspect ratio. Its that to get it pixel perfect, the Metal Slug Collection forces you to drop the dimensions down to a much much smaller size, that doesn't match the height of the PSP's screen. When you zoom it to the full height, its blurry.
Do you know if Princess Crown does this also? or does it look pixel perfect when the image is hitting the top and buttom of the PSP's screen in 4:3 mode? I have been thinking of buying this for PSP at some point, but if it has the same issues as the MS games I may avoid.

Well, the desire to play the PSP on a monitor/TV often boils down to exclusives. Sure one could play say Street Fighter Zero 3 on the PSP while on the go, or play the Saturn/Dreamcast/PS2 iterations of the game on a TV. However for system exclusives, one might feel compelled to also play those games on a display to get the same experience out of them that one might get from playing them on a home console. _________________ www.onlineconsoles.com |

I've never played it but from the screenshots I've seen, it's got a frame around it. It's basically a 4:3 image, with a lot of the sides framed, and a bit of the top & bottom. I couldn't say for sure but my guess is the game originally has 224 lines, not 240. Meaning, you'll never got a 4:3 image w/ it touching the top & bottom of the screen (w/o being blurry). _________________
