Okay, we'll talk about the shit here.

My hardest? Hmm... Ketsui 1st loop maybe?

Props to Zinger for the Cannon Dancer clear. My best is the end of the last stage. Such a rough game.

Really? Took me about a week to clear, it's a pretty forgiving game with the smart bombs and all the powerups and health pods everywhere.

How did you beat Space Harrier? I played a credit or two and was completely humiliated by the speed of that game. Kept crashing into trees and walls all the time, and it's really long too, right?

I find the 4th (?) stage of Cannon Dancer a pain in the ass... the one with the people flying around on invisible strings. Your evil twin is a bit of an asshole if you don't have the power ups as well. I might give it another go at some point.

Space Harrier: You know, I've played it for ages and never took it too seriously other than when I was a kid, playing it on my SMS (3 continues only). I decided I should clear it once and for all, and did (PS2 Sega Ages version). It's 17 stages. Definitely not short. :)

Not sure what's up next. You play Dyna Gear, as I was meaning to once it was brought up here. Maybe we should do another competition.

I have some ideas of games we could play if you're thinking about another competition.

Yeah, throw 'em out there. I'm horribly busy these days, but my participation shouldn't be a reason not to have one.

Well, I wouldn't want to start if you can't play. I don't think anyone would mind waiting for you :?

Here are a couple I've been thinking about:

Marvel Land

Sidescrolling platformer from Namco. Only one button (jump). Bonuses based on completing stages quickly and collecting point items. Pretty bare-bones game, but I haven't dug too deeply into it. Simplicity is kind of nice, though.

Gunball / Nitroball

Multi directional shooter like Senjou no Ookami. Levels are themed and have various contraptions reminiscent of pinball games. Hitting enemies causes them to roll. Hit rolling enemies into bumpers, holes, etc. in order to cause bonus items to come out. A really cool game, overall.

We could always play Nightmare in the Dark... :P

New 1CC: Gradius (2-1)

I'll leave it at that for now. Time for R-Type.

Hey, I broke 2mil on Same!x3's (Megadrive) Easy difficulty. Probably doesn't mean anything 'til I actually beat that stage 10, huh?

For a competition, we could play a Pang game. I nominate any one of them.

EDIT: Gaijin, have you tackled Gunstar Heroes' Hard or Expert modes yet?

I only played Normal once on the Sega Ages collection. Might try hard at some point.

The only thing I don't like about the Pang games is they're a bit slow paced... at least they felt like that to me when I fired them up.

Pang sounds cool, even though I suck at it.

As long as its the stellar Pang 3's Panic mode, two weeks is good.

Beginner with 10 tutorial stages, Normal with 50 puzzle stages, and Panic which goes forever and acts as a score attack.

Normal is score attack too. :)

I tried Panic and it just seems like a mess to me. Other puzzle games have endless modes so let's put one in here. It's harder to utilize combos too. Maybe I suck, but I can get to around level 20 in Normal.

Normal has a time limit and set puzzle stages, not as good for playing just for score as Panic which has a lot more random elements. I find the combos much easier to do in Panic too.

I'm waiting for someone to post their 1CC list with all three Pangs in it before giving the final final. ;)

All 4, actually:

Pang/Buster Bros
Super Pang/Super Buster Bros
Pang 3
Mighty Pang

And if you count the Metro game Pang Poms (it's a bit different, but you can tell it was inspired by Pang), 5.

It has been known by that name, yes. I guess Mitchell stopped using it because Pang was shorter.
